Are FirstMate cans BPA-Free?

The other day a customer asked us if the FirstMate cans are BPA-free (bisphenol A). It has been a long while since anyone asked us this question. We had thought the hype around BPA-free cans had been forgotten (we are wrong).

So we posed the question to FirstMate to get their clarification.

What we understand is FirstMate cans are eProxy free or BPA free (or BPA non-intent). So what is BPA non-intent? Well, no BPA is added intentionally to the rim or the lining of the can. BPA is present in the environment and sometimes trace amounts can end up in the finished FirstMate product however unlikely and in extremely low quantity.

As most of the time we are focused on whether the cans are BPA-free, we forget the food may also contain some amounts of BPA. In this case, FirstMate food ingredients, vitamins or minerals do not contain BPA.

A can may look like a can but no two cans are the same as it is dependent on the type of material used in making the can, the welding of the lid and the coating inside the can.

P.S. Did you know that the receipt you receive on your cab ride may also contain BPA or BPS (bisphenol S)? Or the receipt from the supermarket? How do you know if it contains BPA? A simple test - if you scratch the paper and a grey line appears, this means the receipt contains BPA. This is how unassuming BPA is present around us without us realising. Most receipts are printed on thermal paper. Touching this for a few seconds can cause the BPA to be absorbed into our bodies. Now this is something for you to take note on your next visit to the supermarkets *
